Netball

Only players who want to play competitively will be required to trial for teams. Students who wish to play socially will be assisted to form teams over the next few weeks.  Students need to be keen and able to make the commitment to trainings and playing on Saturday’s at The Tauranga Netball Centre or notify their coach beforehand.

This year we do not have to source umpires for teams. An umpire fee will be included in your overall registration fee. TGA Netball will pay umpires directly based on their qualification and experience. This initiative aims to create a clear “Umpire Pathway”, guiding umpires through each stage of their development. It also ensures that all workshop participants are guaranteed opportunities to umpire, supporting their learning and growth. Every team needs a coach and a manager to be able to register so we do rely on parents to fulfil some of these roles.

The intermediate netball competition starts on Saturday 9th May 2026.  Please note there are no games on 30th May, 4th July, 11th July and 18th July.  Game times are generally Year 8’s at 8:00 am and Year 7’s at 9:00 am.

The cost for playing Netball this season will be $120.00. This cost includes payment for trials, team registrations to The Netball Centre, Netballs, bibs, first aid essentials etc. Once teams have been formed you will get invoiced. Once teams are confirmed with coaches and managers, uniforms will be issued.

Basketball

Basketball League dates are 11th May – 31st August 2026. No games  will be played on 1st June (King’s Birthday). Games are played at Mercury Baypark on Monday nights. The fees for the season are $170 per player. This includes registration for the Monday night league, referees, uniforms, basketballs and first aid essentials. This also includes the annual Basketball Development levy of $5 per player for Under 14 year olds that Basketball NZ has enforced.

Teams will be confirmed in Weeks 6 to 7. Half the fees have to be paid by Wednesday 1st April 2026 for teams to be registered by Thursday 2nd April 2026.  If some fees haven’t been paid in teams then unfortunately the whole team cannot be registered and those that have paid will get refunded. These fees can be paid off if needed but please contact the school or organise.  Full fees are due by Friday 1st May 2026.

MOUTH GUARDS ARE COMPULSORY FOR ALL COMPETITIONS.

All players wishing to play competitively will have to trial. If they want to play social there is no need to attend trials and they will be placed in a team if we have the numbers available.  Please note that if you are playing for a school A, B or C team you cannot choose to play for a social team as well.

Every team also needs a coach and a manager to be able to register so we do rely on parents to fulfil some of these roles. Each team must provide one person to complete the score bench for their own game. This person must be different from the coach, and not part of the playing team.

Hockey

Games are played on Friday nights. Games are played at either Tauranga Hockey Turf at Mt Maunganui, Boys College or Bethlehem College.

We will expect to have a Girls A Team, a Boys A Team and a Mixed A Team. All other teams will likely be mixed teams but this depends on numbers. We will possibly have a Y7 A Girls team pending numbers.  If your child just wants to play socially, they do not have to trial.

The Kwiksticks Intermediate competition is 7 aside Hockey. This means teams consist of 6 field players plus a goalie.

The requirement for teams to include a goalie in the top 4 grades rather than just the top 2 grades are to help address the shortage of goalies being experienced by schools at the secondary school level. The lower grades of course can also include a goalie, but this will be optional.

The fees for hockey for 2026 are $200.00. (not including umpire costs).  If you would like to set up a weekly payment plan please let the Sports Co-ordinator know.  These fees cover the cost to enter the Kwiksticks competition, first aid essentials and hockey equipment. Teams have to pay affiliation fees, competition game and turf fees and a turf renewal levie.

Please note for the Girls A Team there will be an extra cost of $85.00 per player to cover the cost of weekly training at Tauranga Hockey Centre which makes the total $285.00 for the season if your child makes it into the Girls A team.

Competitive Swimming

A school competitive swimming competition will be held on Friday 13th March 2026 from 8:30am – 1:30 pm at the Ōtūmoetai Pool

We encourage all those who can swim at least 50 metres of any stroke competently and under the correct competition rules to enter. The cost for this will be approx $10 -$15 per student (depends on how many students we have enter to cover the cost of hiring the pool) and will need to be paid by Thursday 12th March 2026.

There is now a ban on all diving into pools apart from the exception of Baywave in Tauranga. All students have to start in the water.

We really need parent help to make this event happen so please if you can help in anyway let us know below.

Students can be dropped off at the pool at 8:30am on the day. This gives them a chance to warm up and we can take their attendance from there. Bus students please hop off at Ōtūmoetai College and walk down. Once finished, everyone will walk back to school together. No one is permitted to leave the venue early.

This year the Ōtūmoetai Pools will be charging spectators to come and watch. This is due to the costs they incur when large numbers turn up and use the facilities. You will need to pay as you come in.  Marshalls and parent helpers won’t be charged.

An OIS swimming team will be selected from the results on the day for the BOP/PB Super 11 Competition on the 20th of March 2026. This is held in the 50 metre outdoor pool at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre. The events on offer at our school swimming sports are the same events as at this inter-school competition.
