Students are encouraged to take up a sport and with so many options available there is something for everyone, whether that be as a beginner or at a more advanced level. Check the Daily Notices sports trials, start dates, and details.

Athletics: The school athletics sports are held in Term 4.  Following this, a team is selected to compete in the inter-Intermediate athletic sports later in Term 4.

Badminton: Students may participate at the inter-Intermediate tournament in Term 2 and may be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Basketball: The school assists the organisers of the local basketball league to form school teams. Trials are held during Term 1. A Grade teams also compete in the inter-Intermediate tournament in Term 3 and may be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Cricket: The Kane Williamson Cup (boys) inter-Intermediate competition is held in Term 1. Trials will commence early in Term 1.  The inter-Intermediate competition for Girls Cricket is held in Term 4 if we get enough interest.

Cross Country:  The school cross-country event is held in Term 2.  Teams are selected to represent the school at the inter-Intermediate competition and the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament – both of which are held in Term 3.

Football: Boys’ and girls’ teams are selected to participate in both the winter inter-Intermediate tournament and the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.  Trials are held during Term 1 or 2.

Futsal: There is an inter-Intermediate Futsal tournament in Term 2 and teams may be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Golf: The inter-Intermediate golf tournament takes place in Term 2. Teams may also be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament for an 18-hole or 9-hole course.  Note:  players must be registered with a Golf Club and have a handicap that meets the hole criteria.

Gymnastics:  There is an Argos Gymnastics competition in Term 2 or 3. Competitors may be selected to compete at the ZESPRI AIMS Games in Term 3.

Hockey: The school organises girls’, boys’ and mixed teams for the local league.  Trials are held during Term 1. The Boys A, Girls A and Mixed A teams participate in the winter tournament and the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament which is held near the end of Term 3.

 

Indoor Bowls:  Trials are held at the end of Term 1 for the inter-Intermediate tournament held during Term 2. Students may also be entered in the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament in Term 3.

Mountain Biking: The mountain-biking inter-Intermediate competition takes place in Rotorua in Term 2.  Trials for selection to this team are held early in Term 2.  Students may also be entered in the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament in Term 3.

Netball: The school organises teams to participate in the Tauranga Netball Centre competition.  Trials are held during Term 1.  The A Teams compete in the inter-Intermediate Winter Tournament and the Year 8 Team at the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Rippa Rugby: Trials will be held in Term 2 or 3 for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Rock Climbing: Individuals may compete at the inter-Intermediate competition in Term 2 and then participate at the Zespri AIMS Games.

Rugby: The 1st XV inter-Intermediate competition is held at Blake Park in Term 3.  Trials for this are held during Term 2. The school may enter a 7’s Girls and a 7’s Boys Rugby team in the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Squash:  The inter-Intermediate squash competition takes place in Term 2.  There is also a BOP competition early Term 3.  Teams may also be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.

Surfing: The inter-Intermediate surfing competition takes place in Term 1.  Surfing is a sport at the ZESPRI AIMS Games for students who are confident and capable surfers. Students must be affiliated with their local Board Rider’s Club.

Swimming: School swimming sports is usually held in Term 1 at the Otumoetai Pools. From this, the top two swimmers in each event will be chosen to go to the inter-Intermediate competition in Term 1 in Rotorua.  A school swimming team may also be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games which are held in Term 3.

Table Tennis:  The BOP Table Tennis Champs is held in Term 2 or 3. Trials will be held for this and teams and individuals may be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games tournament.

Tennis:  Tennis players may compete in the inter-Intermediate competition in Term 1.  A school team of qualifying players may be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games Tournament.  Entry for AIMS is restricted to the top 128 boys and 96 girls nationally.

Touch Rugby:  Trials for boys’ and girls’ teams are held early in Term 1.  The inter-Intermediate Competition is held at the end of Term 1.

Triathlon: The school Duathlon is a Term 1 participation event.  Teams may be entered in the Gisborne Beach Challenge and Triathlon in Term 4.

Volleyball:  The Tauranga Volleyball competition is held in Term 1 and Term 4.  The school assists the organisers of the local league by distributing information and forming teams. Trials are held early in Term 4 for the teams to play in the inter-Intermediate competition in Term 4.

Water Polo: The school assists league organisers with the distribution of information and the forming of teams to play in the local competition in Term 1 and Term 4.  A grade teams may be entered for the ZESPRI AIMS Games held in Term 3.

Yachting: Students who meet the criteria will have the opportunity to compete at the ZESPRI AIMS Games tournament.

Other Sports: The School also assists with the organisation of teams and individual competitors in a range of other sports including: Orienteering, Canoe Sport, BMX, Ultimate Frisbee and Underwater Hockey.
