The school offers places to a small number of international full fee paying students.

At Otumoetai Intermediate School international students can become part of school classes and New Zealand families. The school encourages all students to become involved in school activities and international students are able to learn or improve their English by working and playing alongside New Zealand students.

Please complete the Application and Contract of Enrolment form and email with copies of your passport to admin (at) otuinter.school.nz.  Once your application is accepted, you will receive an Offer of Place and an invoice. An official receipt will be emailed once we receive your payment. Please send through a copy of your student visa and medical insurance as soon as possible.

Academic Year

The school year runs from Early February to Mid December.

Registration Fee

This non-refundable fee covers the cost of administering an application to attend our school. This fee is NZ$400.00 including GST for the year.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee is NZ$15,000.00. This tuition fee includes GST, all stationery, field trips, outdoor education and all school activities. Students must have insurance which can be arranged through the school. All students must also wear a school uniform and this will need to be purchased separately. Typically this will cost NZ$600.00 including GST. The school can arrange for this to be purchased for students on arrival at their New Zealand home.

Accommodation

Parents and friends provide accommodation in their homes close to the school. These are approved and monitored by the school’s Accommodation Agent. The accommodation agent will act as the student’s guardian on the parent’s behalf and look after the needs of the students while they are in New Zealand. The school’s accommodation agent will also meet the students on arrival at Auckland airport. The school’s accommodation agent will charge a separate fee for accommodation and guardianship expenses. The school is known for the quality of education provided for its students and this is also a feature of the accommodation package available through the school.

The accommodation expenses are as follows:

  • Homestay: $455.00 x 46 weeks NZ$20,930.00 (refer to our Schedule of Fees for short term rates)
  • Initial homestay placement fee: NZ$400.00

An individual costing will be given to you on request and will be dependent on the level of service a student requires.

Total cost of enrolment at Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School.

The total cost of educating your child at Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School is NZ$37,130.00. This includes full care for your child and a quality education among top New Zealand students.

GST

GST is Goods and Services Tax and is added to the cost of goods and services bought in New Zealand. The amount of GST is 15% at present and where needed has been included in the amounts shown above.

Location and Facilities

Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School is situated in Tauranga (population 130,000) in the Bay of Plenty, 217 kms from Auckland. The Bay of Plenty climate is pleasantly warm and temperate and the area is a centre for horticulture.

Tauranga is a port city for overseas shipping and is famous for swimming, surfing and boating.

International Students at Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School

Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School has spacious grounds in the centre of a residential suburb not far from the harbour. There are specialist facilities for Art, Science, Computing, Hard Technology (woodwork), Soft Materials Technology (cooking, sewing), Music, Dance and Drama as well as a Literacy and Information Centre.

Sports are catered for both indoors and outside on the all-weather Astroturf courts. Our Sports Co-ordinator is available to help with any sporting queries.

Extra Curricular Programme

The school has a strong tradition of sport, music, choir, tuition in musical instruments, drama and art. Students are given many opportunities to participate in out of school classes before or after school. Additional activities are also available during lunch breaks.

English Language Support

The tuition fee includes special individual help to assist the international students to learn English.

There is no level of English required for entry to Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School as the purpose of sending international students to our school is for them to be immersed in everyday life where they will quickly learn English from their peers, teachers and homestay families.

The school does require a report from the student’s last school translated into English to help us assist with class placement.

When a student arrives at Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School

The student’s Class Teacher will make sure the student has a buddy (classroom friend) and be in regular contact to allow for a smooth transition.

In the first weeks, the International Student is tested to analyse their English level. Once tested, students are placed in an ESOL group and are given an ESOL timetable.

On-going Support

International students receive ongoing support from:

  • Their class teacher.
  • Class mates.
  • The school Homestay Manager as guardian.
  • ESOL teacher.
  • Other international students of the same age.
  • School staff.

Special Needs Students

The school does not cater for international students with special needs. Students who wish to apply for a place at Ōtūmoetai Intermediate must be able to learn in English.

Should any special learning needs become apparent, the parent will be responsible for all costs incurred.

Termination of Enrolment

Tuition may be terminated for gross misconduct or given the school false or misleading information during enrolment.

When terminating tuition at the school, refunds will be made according to the school’s refund conditions included in our Application Form and Contract of Enrolment – Schedule 3 Refund Policy.

If tuition is terminated, the school will notify the New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS).

Non Attendance & Withdrawal Procedure

Parents are expected to inform the school or the school’s accommodation agent if their child is leaving the school.

All applications for withdrawal must be made in writing.

If a student is withdrawn or ceases to attend, the school will notify the New Zealand Immigration Service. ( NZIS )

If parents choose to send their son or daughter to Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School, it will be because they wish their child to:
